Dr. Miliama Simeona after struggling with breast cancer has finally passed away at the princess Margaret Hospital on Sunday, 27 September 2020.
Dr. Miliama was married to Capt. Teitimani Simeona and has not long left the medical profession for other careers.
Dr. Miliama Simeona holds an MBBS (Fiji School of Medicine, PGDip, Obstetrics and Gynecology (Fiji School of Medicine.
After leaving the medical profession after 12 years of service, she became the Executive Director of the Tuvalu Family Health Association in 2011, a non-government organization that operates on a non for profit basis.
Dr. Simeona was born on Nanumaga Island and she attended Motufoua Secondary School, then continued to Cathedral School, Townsville, Australia.
After graduating with a Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) degree in Diploma Primary Health Care and Preventive Medicine, she spent 12 months as an intern at the main hospital in Suva, Fiji before returning to Tuvalu in 1999.
In 2002 and 2002 she attended the Fiji School of Medicine and graduated with a postgraduate diploma in Obstetrics and gynecology.
Families and friend have sent messages of condolences to the husband and her families on Facebook and e-mails.
Dr. Conway and Dr. Simeona were the first Tuvalu female doctors and both from the Island of Nanumaga. Dr. Simeona’s funeral will be held on Saturday, 03 October 2020 at the Faihouloto II Falekaupule.
Dr. Conway has also left the medical profession to join the government administration becoming a Chief Executive Officer and currently stranded in the United States due to the current lockdown.
