TCRS appoints new Secretary General

The Management of the Tuvalu Red Cross Movement has appointed Mrs. Tagifoe Fakavae as its new Secretary General. According to Ms. Eseta Lauti, Acting Secretary General, there were several very good candidates who applied for the position but the final choice was on Ms. Fakavae.

After one day in office, Mrs. Fakavae had to accompany her husband, Mr. Fakavae Taomia who was uplifted to New Zealand by a special air ambulance on Tuesday last week, 24 November 2020.

Mrs. Tagifoe was a temporary school teacher at the Motufoua Secondary School back in 1989 and left when her husband, Mr. Fakavae Taomia also a school teacher came to Funafuti to take up a new post with the Meteorological Services as Scientific Officer.

So Mrs. Fakavae has always accompanied her husband wherever her husband was posted.

Last year, Mrs. Fakavae took up a post with the Tuvalu Trust Fund TTF) and the Falekaupule Trust Fund (FTF) but resigned due to a new posting of government CEOs for him to open Tuvalu’s Embassy in Dubai in the United Arabs Emirates (UAE), but this did not happen due to the lockdown and border closures.

Mrs. Fakavae has graduated from USP with a Master in Economics.
